"Forging Partnerships for Climate Resilience in a High-Risk Philippines"
Manila, August 7, 2024 — As the Philippines faces the highest disaster risk globally, building climate resilience is critical. This effort demands collaboration across various sectors, as highlighted during the 7th Annual APRU Sustainable Cities and Landscapes Conference (APRU-SCL 2024).
"Strong partnerships are essential to any program aimed at climate resilience," said Katherine Custodio, Executive Director of WWF-PH. Speaking at a session led by Jonas Marie Dumdum from Nomura Research Institute (NRI), Custodio emphasized the need for sincere collaboration across different sectors to implement national climate policies effectively.
The session also showcased successful partnerships between WWF-PH and SM Prime, including initiatives like the YOUth are the Future campaign, Earth Hour, and the Hamilo Coast Sustainable Development project. SM Prime's Lead Executive, Jessica Bianca Sy, reiterated the company's dedication to developing sustainable, inclusive communities that align with global climate goals.
"At SM Prime, our vision for the future goes beyond financial success. We are committed to building legacy properties that stand the test of time and foster vibrant communities," Sy said.
Custodio added that true change in climate resilience is a long-term commitment, one that requires genuine collaboration and a shared purpose. When projects impact people’s livelihoods and wellbeing in a lasting way, they create real, positive change.
The APRU-SCL 2024 runs from August 6-8 at SMX Aura Convention Center. For more information, email hspdconf@up.edu.ph.
